We work with the Fairtrade Alliance Kerala, a trade union that campaigns for women's rights and sustainable agriculture. Exports are handled by our partner Elements India, which guarantees fair pricing and good working conditions.

For us, sustainability runs through the entire value chain from organic spices, to bicycle production, recycled packaging and deliveries in the Zurich area by cargo bike.

Cultivation & Harvest in India
Our partner in South India is the Fair Trade Alliance Kerala, founded in 2005. A collective of 4,000 small farmers committed to a fair trade-oriented global market. The products include cashews, coffee, spices, coconut oil and cocoa. The focus is on promoting sustainable livelihoods that focus on responsible land management, regional food security and strengthening gender equality. The small farmers live in the northern hill areas of Kerala in the Western Ghats, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A significant proportion of the farmers also live within the Nilgiri Biosphere, a global biodiversity hotspot.
In 2015, we visited the farms with our son to get a better idea of the harvest. The warmth and ease with which the farmers do their physical work touched us and strengthened our decision. We are grateful for our collaboration with FTAK and the positive impact they have on the ground.
Bicycle Production in Zurich
We grind our spices ourselves, using a bicycle specially built for our needs and a little bit of muscle power.
The finished mixtures are filled into recycled packaging and delivered to Zurich by cargo bike.
